Participants of FIM4L - list update

Dear participants of the FIM4L initiative,
The email list of FIM4L is growing. That's a good thing; we get attention from libraries, NREN's, and many supportive partners, from EU and recently the US. (As you can see in the email just send by Peter G. containing a PDF with names for the charter doc.)
To keep track of all participants of FIM4L, we decided in our last call to ask every participant for a short introduction. At least your name, function and affiliation. And why you're on FIM4L would be nice too. Just because many of the list don't know everyone involved.
We also want to ask you whether you're fine with publishing your institution and personal name on the http://fim4l.org website. (in development)
Future participants will be asked to give a short introduction too.
So, could you please give:
1. short intro 2. consent to publish your name on website (name and affiliation only)
@Gerrit: thank you for your already given extensive intro!
Thank you in advance! Jos

Hi All,
I’m Lee Houghton and I’m a librarian at the University of Nottingham with a focus on discovery and authentication/user access to e-resources.
I look after our library discovery layer which is Primo, I liaise with IT colleagues to make configuration changes to our IdP server and I’m also the administrator of our EZproxy server.
The twin goals in my current job are to make library resources easily discoverable but also easy to access from wherever you are: on or off campus which is why I was interested in and took a small part in RA21.
I’m also fine with my name being published on the website.
Thanks

Hello Peter,
I should have pointed out in my introduction that we are part of pilot activity for the African identity federation being driven by WACREN and Ubuntunet Alliance, so there are areas that need to be addressed some which you have pointed out.
My interest in being part of the list to gain more insights into the AARC initiative and how identity infrastructure is being leveraged by libraries so I can help my library community in Nigeria with identity and access management as an NREN provider.

It is a work stream of the African regional RENs as part of the AfricaConnect project. Work in progress that will be sorted out. Thanks for drawing attention to it.

Dear all,
so let also me introduce myself
In the beginning of my IT career I was programmer and then worked for LDAP/X.500 related DFN research projects and for DANTE Cambridge in charge of the X.500 root node. Almost 20 years ago, I founded DAASI International as a spin off of the last DFN-Project and as official spin off of the University of Tübingen. DAASI International provides Open Source solutions in the fields of Identity and Access Management and Federated Identity Management. I was among others involved in research infrastructure projects and in AARC 1 and 2. Within AARC 1 DAASI International was involved in several library oriented pilots and I was co-organizing a respective workshop at the LIBER 2016 Conference and presented at LIBER 2018 Conference. On that 2018 event Jos, Jiri, Valentino Cavalli (then working for LIBER) and I agreed that a thing like FIM4L would be beneficial to ease migration of libraries to FIM and thus we 4 started this activity.
Cheers,
Peter

Hi, I'm Wolfgang Pempe, in charge of DFN-AAI, the identity federation operated by DFN (the German NREN). Back in 2007, it was the German library community (namely Freiburg) that pushed DFN to establish an Identity Federation. Insofar, we have a historical obligation to serve the needs of the libraries. ;-)

Hi everyone,
My name is Nick Roy, I’m the Director of Technology and Strategy at InCommon, the US entity that runs the InCommon SAML trust federation, serving the US research and education community. I’ve been involved with RA21 since its inception. Before I started working at InCommon in 2015, I was an identity and access management architect and director at two big US research universities (University of Iowa and Penn State). In my work at those schools, I spent a lot of time working to get access to scholarly materials moved to a federated model. I’m interested in making access to scholarly materials easier for end-users, and leveraging the existing work on federation trust models in the R&E sector to help make that happen.
It’s fine to include my name and organization (Internet2, which runs InCommon) in the working group materials. I will try to limit my contributions, since I am one of the fed operator/technical voices. I won’t be able to participate regularly in working group calls, but am happy to help with this effort where I can.
Best,
Nick

Hi all,
my name is David Hübner and I'm working at DAASI International and in that capacity was involved in both the AARC1 and AARC2 projects. In the first of those one of the major topics was how to introduce federated AAI into the library space and that's the primary reason I'm interested in this list.

One of the goals of this task is engaging with (new) communities on T&I, of which this initiative clearly fits in :-) Another hat is my role as steering committee member in REFEDShttps://refeds.org/.

Hello everyone,
1. I'm Meshna Koren, responsible for SP integrations at Elsevier, and I follow federated identity discussions because this is currently one of most interesting things on the horizon. I don't necessarily need to participate in a debate but I can lend an SP angle to it.
I have respect for people that brought Internet2 to where we are today and I hope that future development will continue in a similar spirit; we can make things simpler and better... but it's also terribly easy to water them down to the point where someone will start looking for an entirely new solution to solve an old problem.
2. Fine with having my name published.
Kind regards, Meshna
